a note on video codecs and what you need to watch files on this site.

to watch encoded files on your computer you need two things: a codec (compress/decompress), and a player that supports that codec. most of the files here on this site are encoded using Xvid.

you'll need to install the Xvid codec first and make sure your player supports Xvid. here's some links for you if you're having trouble viewing:

for windows users:
Xvid codec - Xvid v1.1.2 final from koepi.org
media player classic - media player classic for xp/win2k from guliverkli

for mac users:
DivX codec - works for Xvid files as well - DivX for macs
QuickTime - common media player on macs, it's probably already installed on your computer - QuickTime
VideoLAN - free, open source media player - VideoLAN for macs

for linux users:
Xvid codec - grab the Xvid source code and compile it yourself, or install from a binary for your distribution.
mplayer - very good open source media player for *nix - mplayer
